  14. Space is a 3D shoot-em-up for high end Amigas. Minimum spec is a 603e@160Mhz
  15. and CyberVision3D/64. Cyber/BlizzardVisionPPC is highly recommended as is a 
  16. faster proccessor.

  19. Installation
  20. ------------

  22. You will need a fully working Warp3D installation. This can be found at:
  23. ftp://ftp.haage-partner.com/3DWorld/Warp3D/
  24. and a fully working WarpOS installation from:
  25. ftp://ftp.haage-partner.com/WarpUP/
  26. Please try to get the demos of these running before reporting bugs to me. 
  27. Read the docs carefully but if you have any problems feel free to contact me.

  29. The game can be unarchived to wherever is convienient.

  31. Starting
  32. --------

  34. To run the game simply double click the icon or open a shell and CD to the 
  35. 'Space' drawer and type 'space.wos'.
  36.  
  37. Prefs
  38. -----
  39.  
  40. When starting for the first time space will request the following:
  41.  
  42. Sound : I recommend you use AHI here as the Direct Paula Hack is buggy.
  43.     If you do not have AHI or have problems you can use the Direct 
  44.     Paula Hack. If you are not using a sound card I reccommend selecting
  45.     'Paula:DMA 8 Bit Stereo' from AHI prefs for whichever unit you have
  46.     chosen as this has a low CPU usage. Perhaps when AHI.WOS is finished
  47.     HiFi 8 Bit will be better.
  48. Conrol: I recommend you use JoyPad here as the game is much more difficult 
  49.     with any other controls. If you don`t have a joypad the keys may be
  50.     user defined. Any combination of keys is possible but you will have
  51.     to experiment on your setup to find which work. On my Power Tower 
  52.     certain keys jam one another.
  53. Display: On my 603e@160Mhz BVisionPPC 640x480 is fast enough. 320x240 is 
  54.     UGLY. If you have a faster proccesor try higher resolutions. 
  55.  
  56. If you need to change these prefs after running for the first time you 
  57. should run space_prefs or you will have to delete 'sound.prefs', 
  58. 'control.prefs' or 'display.prefs' from the 'space' drawer.

  60. Menus

  63. All menus are now controled from the keyboard. Generally 'L' means continue 
  64. without selecting. While 'A' means select. Cursor keys select up and down 
  65. in what I hope is an intuitive manner.

  89. ATM the game is at the beta stage. Don`t expect too much. If you can report 
  90. that the game runs without crashing I`ll be pleased. I`ve got about 2-6 
  91. months work to do on it before it`s finished.
  92. Things to do include:
  93.  
  94. Better collision detection.
  95. Some improvements to the main algorythmn will mean I can add more complex 
  96. enemies.
  97. Lots of general tidying up.
  98. I had the intention of trying to add internet play. This has be given up on
  99. due to several reasons. Firstly the code is a lot more complex than I had 
  100. expected and the algorythmn I have have used is not really suited to it. 
  101. Secondly it was pointed out that to make such a thing worthwhile a large 
  102. number of players would be required. Given the current state of the Amiga 
  103. market...

  106. I should be able to write all of this tommorow afternoon. It will then take
  107. me until Christmas to debug it. ;)
  108.  
  109. Once finished the game will be shareware. I`m thinking about 10UKP. The next
  110. version (0.8b) should be the final beta version. After that a version 1.0 
  111. will appear with all the features of the full game but only 4-5 levels. Your
  112. 10UKP will buy you an endless number of levels and some extra goodies.

  115. Suggestions are welcome as are bug reports, critisisms insults and 
  116. compliments. Whether you entirely fail to get the game running or run it 
  117. for three days continuously without a crash I need to hear from you.
